GES 14
In the 30s of the 20th century, during the construction of a hydroelectric power plant near Rybinsk, it was decided to flood the town of Mologa and a large number of villages. Among them, three large monasteries were flooded. One of the monasteries was particularly large and rich — Dorofeeva Desert.
The labor of Volgolag prisoners was actively used in the construction of the hydroelectric power plant. Many of the prisoners died during the construction. A special settlement was built for the engineers of the plant, called GES 14. As a reminder of Volgolag, a high-security colony remained near the settlement, which is still in operation today.
At present, the village of
GES 14 is experiencing bad days. The school and the kindergarten were closed. They were given to the church, which decided to revive in these buildings, which were flooded during the construction of
hydroelectric power plant Dorofeeva Desert Monastery. Now prayers are held here.
